I was lucky to be at the BADER BRAVES Young Aviators Day at the West London Aero Club at White Waltham Airfield yesterday (Sunday 12th May). As in previous years, the Club, their members and their wonderful pilots did us proud and ensured that the Braves and their families had a great day out. There’s no doubt it could have been warmer but the main thing was that, unlike last year, the weather held off long enough for all the Braves and (almost) everyone else keen to fly to be taken up.
Sadly there was no tent this year – the wind did beat us in that respect despite some valiant efforts – but Sammy’s Cake Stall was a new and very welcome addition to the day. Many thanks to Sammy McNamara (brother of Brave, Morgan) for all his efforts baking a wide variety of very delicious (I know – I sampled most of them!) cakes to raise funds for the charity. A fantastic effort and much appreciated by all. Thanks too to Sammy’s mother, Angela, for her support and washing up! (If the McNamara name rings a bell, it’s because Sammy’s father, David, successfully tackled the 3-Peaks Challenge last year to raise funds for the DBF – a wonderful and much appreciated family support group.)
We are also, of course, enormously grateful to all at the West London Aero Club who put so much effort into creating such a wonderful atmosphere for the Flying Day. Their Stewards seemed to be everywhere, helping and assisting with great good humour and willingness and the pilots give their time so generously and with such understanding and enthusiasm. Picnic lunches with a choice of sandwiches were kindly provided and much appreciated by all. Sincere thanks to you all – without you these Events simply wouldn’t be possible.
As you know, we’re always delighted to hear from any Braves and their families about their experiences of the day and, of course, to receive any photographs you’re happy to share with other Braves. Please send in your thoughts, reports and pictures – we’d love to be able to publish them on the Website.
And so – a last big thank you to all the Braves and their families who attended. It was lovely to see you all there and it’s your participation, enthusiasm and enjoyment that make the day. We hope to see you all again soon!
A full report on Sunday’s Flying Day will follow shortly but here are the first few photographs to tide you over!
