BIG BERTHA BAGS BADER BRAVES AT GOODWOOD
In an odd way it was something of a relief to awake this Sunday morning to the sound of rain beating on the bedroom window for, on Friday morning and in the light of the terrible weather forecast for Sunday 10th August along the South Coast region, a decision was reluctantly taken to cancel our Bader Braves Young Aviators Day scheduled for Goodwood Aero Club.
Nothing would have been more frustrating than to have heeded the warnings of the met office only to find that they had got it wrong. This time they were absolutely spot on; the tail end of Hurricane Bertha had, as predicted, landed! Having just spoken to a contact staying on the Solent it was clear that there would have been no flying today: driving rain, very high winds, low cloud and poor visibility – all the ingredients of a day in the clubhouse rather than in the air.
So Braves, I am sorry that we had to call off our Goodwood event but as it transpires, it has been exactly the right decision. Sadly we are unable to reschedule the event this year but we will be negotiating a date for 2015 with our friends at the Aero Club which will be announced later in the year.
Back under the covers now I think!!!
