The DOUGLAS BADER GRANT SCHEME provides practical support for the pursuance of achievements by those with disabilities.
This initiative assists individuals with disabilities as well as groups and small businesses working with and supporting those individuals throughout the UK to achieve a variety of goals in diverse areas ranging from education, the arts, sport and recreation.
We look at all applications and, depending on the nature of the request, the scheme may help towards or provide the equipment, training, services, further education or other practical support required by the successful applicant.
(Please note that we are unable to support applications for living aids.)
Through the Bader Grant scheme the Foundation supports the Junior Amputee Games and other sporting opportunities, which in turn offers young people living with disabilities the opportunity to have a go at some of the Paralympic sports and experience .
I don’t think you can overestimate what sport can give you.
I have come a long way mentally, physically and with my skills. It always feels quite surreal to be classed as an elite athlete.
DBF Ambassador, MARTINE WRIGHT, OBE, Paralympian
LADY BADER GRANTS
The Lady Bader Grant scheme was set up in memory of Joan Bader who died in December 2015. These grants will be allocated to applicants whose goals reflect Lady Bader’s own interests. Special Awards will also be granted on occasion to support individual applications.
SIR DOUGLAS BADER’S main message to the amputees and others with disabilities he visited was always about what you can achieve and not what you can’t. The DOUGLAS BADER FOUNDATION was built on and still adheres to this message of inspiration and the BADER GRANT initiative aims to assist successful applicants on that fundamental premise.
Don’t listen to anyone who tells you that you can’t do this or that. That’s nonsense. Make up your mind, you’ll never use crutches or a stick, then have a go at everything. Go to school, join in all the games you can. Go anywhere you want to. But never, never let them persuade you that things are too difficult or impossible.
Sir Douglas Bader
