Ambassadors’ Tandem Challenge Wales a great success!

We were delighted to receive the following action picture taken during our intrepid  Ambassadors, Wyn Jenkins’ and Margaret (aka Maggz) Biggs’ inaugural Welsh Tandem Tryout.

Apparently the ride was a great success once Wyn and Maggz got the hang of it. Maggz (behind) was well protected from the cold Welsh Mountain air while Wyn had the advantage of being the one knowing where they were going.

I gather that the only hiccoughs were when Wyn decided to freewheel without telling Maggz. I don’t know anything about riding tandems (or other bikes come to that) but according to Wyn:  “for her it was like having a brake applied to her crank and that can be painful when she’s really going for it!!” (and probably resulted from some choice words directed at his back – though hopefully whipped away by the rushing wind!)

The Team Bader Challenge Wales proper will take place between the 12th-15th April during which time the DBF Dynamic Duo intend to complete the 200 mile journey down the vertical axis of Wales. More information can be found on the preceding News Post.

We are immensely grateful to Wyn and Maggz for this huge effort to raise funds for the Douglas Bader Foundation. You can support them and thereby the charity by going to their Team Bader Challenge Wales JustGiving Page – no donation is too small to be very gratefully received and will contibute towards the DBF’s invaluable work helping and supporting amputees and other disabled and their families.

Wyn and Maggz have had some other pictures taken by County Cyles, Wales, who supplied the tandem, and you can expect to see these on the Website very shortly, hopefully along with a report on the trial run by whichever has recovered fastest!

Team Bader Cycling has been initiated by Wyn and Maggz, both amputee cyclists, to encourage other amputees and those with physical disabilities to get “on yer bike” and discover the physical and psychological pleasures and benefits to be gained by the sport. If you’d like to join Team Bader on a bike ride or fund-raising challenge or would simply like to know more, please don’t hesitate to contact us. All will be welcome to Team Bader Cycling and be able to be involved in some capacity whatever their experience or disability.

You can also turn up to cheer them on along the route during their ride. Details of the route, and a hopeful schedule, will be published on the Website soon. Please keep checking in for updates.

So – without more ado – here are the dynamic duo in action: Clicking on the image will result in a larger picture, which will open in a separate window.

(It’s good of Wales too!!)
