We’ve been contacted by Jack Parker, a high right leg amputee since 2008.
He’s created a page called “Swap Shoes With Amputees” (This is a page for people missing a right or left leg even right or left arms to swap shoes or gloves and also feel free to share stories and chat amongst each other.)
Jack’s page offers a place for amputees to swap or find the shoes that they need. It also gives them the ability to post pictures of and information about the spare shoes they can’t use.
This great idea is apparently beginning to take off but we need to make more people aware of it so that more can benefit. I know from some of the messages we receive that there are many unilateral lower limb amputees out there needing exactly this facility. And there’s no reason, of course, why the same shouldn’t be true for upper limb amputees and gloves.
Jack has visited shoe stores asking for donations to the cause and now has quite a large number and variety and the collection is growing with an extensive library of ladies’, men’s, children’s and babies’ shoes to choose from.
The method used to “Swap Shoes” is simple: People comment on the shoe they want, get in contact with the current owner, find their address and negotiate postage. As this is a worldwide endeavour with people all over the planet posting, you should be able to find something you like wherever in the world you are.
The shoes are all free so the only cost is the postage.
