I wonder if any of you remember (mentioning no names, of course – no free advertising on this Website!) the ad featuring the famous chimps and the immortal line: “Can you ride tandem?”? Well, our intrepid Ambassadors, Wyn Jenkins and Margaret (aka Maggz) Biggs are about to find out as they undertake the first challenge for Team Bader Cycling to raise funds for the Douglas Bader Foundation.
In April, the dynamic duo, both amputee cyclists, will undertake to ride Tandem down the vertical axis of Wales. Starting on Friday 12th April, they hope to complete the 200 mile challenge (together!) on Monday 15th April.
The route will take them from Holyhead to Mumbles passing through Porthmadog, Machynlleth, Aberystwyth, Tregaron, Lampeter, Llandeilo, Annamford, Pontarddulais and Swansea en route.
This is a huge challenge and we are enormously proud of Wyn and Maggz for undertaking it. Both are experienced individual cyclists but sharing a bike will be a whole new experience for them both and probably something of a challenge in itself! Will they do battle for the front position? Of course, the one riding behind is guaranteed a great view as they’ll be able to admire the back of the special kit designed by Maggz for Team Bader!
Please support this wonderful fundraising challenge in any way you can. You can turn up to cheer them on their way (further details of the route and estimated times or arrival at points along it will be available on the Website in the near future). You can also support financially through the DBF Dedicated Team Bader Challenge Wales JustGiving Page. Please follow the link to donate. Any gift, however small, will be very gratefully received and, you can be sure, put to very good use.
You can find out more about the Challenge, see the kit and download the Press Release by clicking HERE.
As well as fund-raising, TEAM BADER was set up to encourage more amputees and other disabled to take up cycling. They will be organising other cycling events throughout the year and will be encouraging others to join, whatever their disability and cycling experience. There will be something for everyone and fun and good company guaranteed. The benefits of exercise and fitness for amputees and other disabled, particularly regarding healing and rehabilitation, are well documented and we can’t think of many better ways of achieving it! Please contact us if you’d like to join TEAM BADER or would like to know more.
As an added bonus, you’ll get to wear TEAM BADER kit and hit the cutting edge of cycling cool! What more could you want?!
Please contact us for further information and keep checking the Website for updates.
I’m sure you’ll join us all at the DBF in wishing Wyn and Maggz success in their challenge. It goes without saying that we are deeply grateful to them for their efforts. The DBF relies almost entirely on fund-raising to survive and it’s largely only through the efforts of people like Wyn and Maggz that we can raise the money to continue our valuable work on behalf of amputees and other disabled.
Oh – and by popular demand, and with absolutely no reflection on Wyn and Maggz, here is the clip!Tags: amputee cyclists, Douglas Bader, Margaret Biggs, Team Bader, Wyn Jenkins
