Steve Randall’s New Adventure!

You may remember reading about Steve Randall, the erstwhile Ferry Pilot (the most dangerous form of flying there is), who wrote a wonderful book on his exploits called “Rubber Suits and Lukewarm Soup”.

Steve, who was inspired by Sir Douglas on his flights, has since become a valued supporter of the DBF regularly donating proceeds from his great book (well worth a read if you haven’t already). We are extremely grateful to him.

Clearly never one to ignore a challenge, 32 years after first flying an RAF de Havilland Chipmunk, Steve bought one, now registered as WG430, and piloted it over  2,500miles, coast to coast across the Unites States to his home in Thermal California!

You can read about this challenging flight in a blog his has written for his new website via the link below. It’s another great and inspiring read and, on the website, you can also learn about the long history of WG430 and see some beautiful photographs which give an idea of the extraordinarily difficult terrain Steve had to cross to get his ‘plane home.

Last leg, happy pilot!
