An auspicious date! The 3rd Dambusters Cycle Ride will take place on Sunday next weekend on the 75th anniversary of the original Dambusters Raid.
We are extremely grateful to cycling enthusiast and DBF Ambassador, Wyn Jenkins, for picking up the mantle yet again to organise this wonderful event which raises money for the DBF and for Wyn’s cycling club, CMC Cycling Club, Llandeilo. Also a big thank you to CMC for their support and help with the event.
The first 2 events have been a great success with very positive feedback from participants and with all we’ve learned from the last 2 we expect this year to be the best ever.
loved every second of this event. So different from the normal sportives with a brilliant stunning ride. The support during the ride and feed stations with a great selection made for a seamless ride. The plane fly by at the Dam was really special and so fitting with the theme of the day. Met some lovely people and also felt proud to complete this event to the end. Can’t thank the team enough, you put on a superb show and day! Can’t wait for next year already! Thank you 😊 Gemma Trotter: DBF Ambassador/Cyclist
There are a few places remaining but entries close on Sunday 6th May so don’t delay if you’d like to join in the fun. This is one of the few sportives that is truly inclusive with a choice of 2 routes of different lengths and difficulty levels:
- “Target Mission” (55 miles) – an opportunity for serious and competitive riders to show what they’re made of as it incorporates a 4 mile steady climb up to the Llyn Brianne Dam
- “Fighter Escort” (35 miles) – a shorter and gentler route that is “as flat as any ride in this area can possibly be“!
There is also expert back up and support for both bicycles and riders so you needn’t worry if you can’t complete the course.
One of the few rides that can genuinely be called disability friendly. Wyn Jenkins: Organiser/DBF Ambassador
The ride starts and finishes on the edge of Llandeilo at Coleg Sir Gar, Gelli Aur Campus, Llandeilo, SA32 8NJ, is themed throughout with food stations along the way, surprises in store and welcome hot meals and refreshments and even the chance of a massage when you get to the finish. It is a wonderfully friendly ride and people comment on the warm and supportive atmosphere, so why not come along and give it a try? Entry is via the British Cycling Website and you will find the link at the bottom of this post.
Friendly people, beautiful scenery, ample refreshments, fun, surprises, hot food, raising money for a good cause while you enjoy it all….What more could you want? Come along and check it out! (But hurry – you’ve only got until Sunday…!)
