Against all odds, Lady Bader Grant Recipient, Para-Dressage Rider, Mari Durward-Akhurst, is having a fantastic year. As you’ll know from the previous post, she had a very successful day at the recent National Championship on both horses finishing 2nd with 70% on Sky and finishing in the top 5 with her young horse, Bear, at only his 3rd National Championship. The image above shows her at the Championship Prize Giving.

Mari’s news gets better as we’ve just heard that she and Sky O’Hara, kindly on loan from Glesni Owen, have been selected to represent Great Britain at Hartpury 3* International. This is a wonderful acknowledgement not only of of Mari’s talent but also her determination and sheer courage in the face of worsening symptoms of her CP recently and her success couldn’t be more deserved. She has Sir Douglas’s fighting spirit in spades.

You can see videos of Mari’s tests with both Sky and Bear via the links below. There’s no doubt that she looks wonderful on both horses and that the empathy without which such great partnerships between horse and rider are impossible is very much in evidence.

Many congratulations to Mari – we are enormously proud to be associated with her and to be able to share her journey towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. We know that Lady Bader, herself a keen rider, would be delighted with Mari’s achievement and will be with her all the way in spirit!

Horses are my legs and together we excel. Mari Akhurst
