Covid Chaos for Bader Braves – 2020 Report from Keith Delderfield

Bader Braves 2021 Report

COVID CHAOS FOR BADER BRAVES!!

What a strange year 2020 has so far provided for us!! Everybody throughout the UK cannot have failed in having their lives touched by the Covid-19 virus by one way or another whether it is by closed schools, trips out or failure to get their favourite ice cream delivered by the supermarket.

Throughout the 2019/20 winter period everyone here at The Douglas Bader Foundation had been working hard to put together an exciting and extended Bader Braves activity programme from our established Young Aviators events to water activities and adventure camps. Everything was in place, we were all ready to go and then …………. THE LOCKDOWN!!

Our 2020 programme was scheduled to follow the pattern of previous years commencing with Young Aviator events but, of course, social distancing in the confines of light aeroplanes is impossible and consequently and despite the very best efforts by the management teams at the host venues, one by one the flying days along with the water activities, sadly fell by the wayside. Similarly the guidance regarding group gatherings issued by the government led to the cancellation of the adventure camp events.

So all of our 2020 events have through necessity ended up as NON- events!!

The good news is that all of our generous supporters have indicated their desire to be there for us in 2021 and we are all busy making plans for next year’s programme and keeping our fingers crossed that Covid-19 is under control. No doubt we still have a bit of a rough passage to navigate our way through but if we all follow the guidelines and help those working so hard to repair the damage inflicted upon us all by this horrible virus and those who are trying to keep us well and make us safe we will be back in action next year.

I know that we can rely on all of our BADER BRAVES to do their bit!!

KEEP SAFE, KEEP WELL, FOLLOW GUIDELINES AND, HOPEFULLY, WE CAN ALL GET TOGETHER AGAIN IN 2021.

Best wishes,

See you next year!!

Keith
