Penrith Pumas Wheelchair Rugby 5’s

An invitation from Megan Pettit of the Penrith Pumas to watch competitive Wheelchair Rugby Fives on Sunday 26th February at Penrith Leisure Centre from 12-4pm.

Penrith Pumas Wheelchair Rugby 5’s are exciting events and really showcase this challenging and competitive sport. If you’re interested to learn more about it or watch it live perhaps for the first time, you couldn’t go to a better place. There will be plenty to do in the afternoon including meeting the Penrith Pumas team, winning a prize on the tombola, joining as a volunteer and even having a go yourself.

We first reported on the Penrith Pumas in May 2021. It was launched in January 2020 by Megan’s husband, Gary who had competed in the Invictus Games, winning Gold in Wheelchair Rugby, and returned home to find that there was nowhere for him to practice near his home. Never a quitter, Gary decided to bring the sport to Cumbria and the idea of The Penrith Pumas was born. Sadly Covid 19 intervened and they were unable to practice until May, 2021. Since then the club has come on in leaps and bounds and we are very proud to have been able to support the Penrith Pumas with a Bader Grant. Douglas was an excellent Rugby player himself before losing his legs and we have no doubt that he would have thoroughly enjoyed watching the Penrith Pumas in action and would have been itching to have a go himself!

One of the advantages of Wheelchair Rugby is that it is open to both men and women and is one of the few sports where they can compete on the same team.

No matter what level of ability a person has, there is a place for everyone.

Read on for Megan’s invitation.

We would like to invite you to attend Penrith Pumas Wheelchair Rugby 5’s at Penrith Leisure Centre on Sunday 26th February 2023 to watch live Wheelchair Rugby. Team Puma’s are hosting the Northern Development League, where we will be competing against North East Bulls and the Newcastle Barbarians. This is all in preparation for our upcoming summer 2023 season kicking off in June 2023.

This is going to be a great day for all the family, bring your friends and enjoy watching the sport, meeting the team, asking any questions you may have and also see how you can get involved in supporting our team.

Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks.

Kind Regards, Megan Pettit
