Official Branson Portrait to be Auctioned for DBF

The official portrait of Sir Richard Branson by well respected artist, Christian Hook, will be sold via best and final offers over the next fortnight, 5th – 19th December, by Clarendon Fine Arts, who represent the artist.

Sir Richard was a long time friend of Sir Douglas Bader and a supporter of the charity set up in his name.

The portrait, by 2014 Sky Portrait Artist of the Year winner, Christian Hook, commemorates the historic occasion on Monday 31st October 2021 when Sir Richard and 3 other Virgin Galactic employees made their 50 minute flight into space, thereby opening the door to accessible space travel.

Helen Swaby from Clarendon Fine Art explains that Christian Hook’s Richard Branson “Zero Gravity” work, painted in a rare circular format with Richard shown upside down as though looking down from space, is “a very special example of Christian’s portrait work”. The artist is renowned for his unique style and original viewpoints and this portrait surely bears out these qualities. It is poignant that it might also be Christian’s final portrait as, after many years as a very successful and sought after painter in this genre, he is now exploring new subjects.
