The London Triathlon will take place on the 2nd and 3rd August. The event is approaching fast and our DBF representatives will soon be putting their months of training to the test.
The London Triathlon is the world’s biggest and most iconic triathlon, each year welcoming over 13,000 triathletes of all ages and abilities, to swim, bike and run around the spectacular route.
The Douglas Bader Foundation is very proud to be fielding several competitors, both team and individual, for this prestigious and challenging event:
- We have 1 Disabled Team of 3 Amputees made up of 2 of our wonderful Ambassadors, Wyn Jenkins (swimming) and Margaret “Maggz” Biggs (cycling) who will be joined for the event by amputee runner, Helen Chapman.
- 2 Able-Bodied Teams made up largely of Delderfields – another great support effort by this amazing and talented family who, between them, have already raised a considerable amount of money for the charity through a variety of usually strenuous endeavours.
Team 1: Tessa Barfield, Tim Delderfield and Mark “Buff” Barfield
Team 2: Sophie Delderfield, Lloyd James and Mark Allison
- One Able-Bodied Female Solo Entry: Wyn’s wife, Marg, making it a Jenkins double – an heroic effort!
Hats off to them all! We are so grateful to them for their support and wish them all a great and, if possible(!), enjoyable weekend. Certainly the well-deserved celebrations that will undoubtedly take place on Sunday evening should make it all worthwhile. We wish them all the very best of luck.
All these brave athletes are using this event to raise money to support our BADER BRAVES and funds raised will help us to organise more Young Aviators Days, Adventure Weekends and other events for disabled youngsters as well as funding a Bader Grant to continue our support for the excellent Junior Amputee Games at Stoke Mandeville. Please reward their efforts on the charity’s behalf. Any donation, whatever the size, will be hugely appreciated and will be going to a very worthwhile cause.
How you can help:
Tessa Barfield (nee Delderfield!), pictured left with team members Tim Delderfield and Mark “Buff” Barfield, has set up a family JustGiving Page for the charity and will welcome donations.
You can also support the athletes by using the bespoke link on our Donation Page.
